68 THRASHER
Love is in the air as Lavar dishes out a sweet switch
nosegrind to forwards at a Stockholm skatepark.
James, we had to leave this dream. We
had to make it to the demo in
Faelledbarken, a public skatepark that I
wish I had in my backyard.
Again, James and Lavar were ripping as
usual, doing so many tricks all over the
place I felt like an amateur again.
Everybody was skateboarding well.
Those Copenhagens know how to skate-
board. There was another demo of its
own going on in the back of the grass: it
was the Earth Bong. The Earth Bong is a
gnarly creature that will sneak up on you
with one little toke; I had seen this for the
first time two years ago on the Blind tour.
I tried it then and had to pass this time.
What you do is get down on all fours and
put your mouth on the mouthpiece in the
ground and inhale; just try not to puke all
over it. That would definite-
ly be a buzzkill. That place
was fun. Mike even got a
sequence of me skate-
boarding; I think it was the
only thing I got all tour.
Thanks for hanging around.
while I tried to land it, Mike.
It was off to dinner where
the gin tasted like salsa and
the music sucked. Hauser
Square was a skate spot
with lots of nice ledges, and
again James got tons of
footy and pictures-switch
backside heels to tail. Lavar
wasn't feeling good still so
he slept in the car. The day
was almost over so we went
back to Christiana, stopped
at Ali's and had a roll on the
ramp I mean we rolled on
the ramp. I can't remember.
The next day we went to a little pub-
lic park called the Bong Spot and
looked at some handrails around town.
The days go by so fast; it's like wake up,
go here, do this, go there, eat, go to the
hotel and sleep, then do it all over
again. We were off to Hamburg,
Germany; it was six hours away on the
train, and this old guy smoked cigars
the whole way.
We met up with Thomas and Leo in
Hamburg. Thomas spoke English and
Leo didn't, but by the end of the trip
Leo was doing pretty well. We had to
drive 100 kilometers to a town called
Bremen, where we stopped at the shop
Attitude for a quickie, then went to the
Hotel Ibis. For dinner we went out and
ate at Malaysia-good food and
starters, and some summer rolls and
won tons. After that we walked to some
bar that was like a cave on the inside.
Thomas and Leo wrapped up a few; the
workers at the bar didn't care. I was
wasted and couldn't sit still. James was
on his way to being drunk too. Mike
restrained himself and had a group of
ladies to entertain. Back to the hotel we
went and Mike came in to use the
phone, trying to be sneaky and use our
bill. Then came James and it was off to
James manhandles a Smith grind
with Germany's version of water.
Although there was a rickety vert ramp, some BMX
umps, and even some tractor tires at this demo,
Ronnie kept it all-too-real with a late shove over a
waist-high bar.
