place to stay, and we were try-
ing to get him up, but he
wouldn't budge. About 2:00 in
the morning, the sprinklers
went on, and I'm sure that was
not the best place for him to
be. We had written all over
him, so in the morning he woke
up and went to McDonald's
and everybody ignored him
there because he had huge
things on his face that he
couldn't explain, and he was
standing there like, "What? My
money's green. Why can't I get
some food?"

Anyway, ever since, every
time I go back there, people
always ask me where "le big-
head" is. He hit the skids a cou-
ple years later, but it's always
been one of my favorite
Marseille memories.
After going back all these
years in a row, Quiksilver
decided to throw a skateboard
contest at the park. Much like
the Jim's Ramp Jam, the final
jam that went down with the
top twelve dudes was incredi-
ble: Cardiel going head to head
with Wade Speyer, Christian
Brox, Remy Stratton, Omar

Hassan, two of the local dudes,
Chalmers, Manzoori, and even
Ben Krahn was there. That 25-
minute jam was something to
see. Wade was doing 50-50s
over the spine through two
bowled corners, Christian was
frontside flipping the hip, Remy
Stratton did eggplants and
straight-foot frontside ollies out
of the big bowl, Omar was
doing heelflip frontside grabs,
Cards was just going for broke
no problem, and Ben Krahn
kickflipped off the teardrop.
Chalmers wás just going
psycho guns. Manzoori is
cool; he just gets his skate on
and cuts out. Lots of shit was
going on; it was packed, it was
a sunny day, and the Quiksilver
dudes hooked us up great. I
hope they have it again next
year because we'll all be there.
Thanks to everybody, and the
town of Marseille for having it
there, and for building that
park and not tearing it out two
years ago to build a hotel.
Once again, thanks for building
the best park in the world. Vive
la France.
