The first drug for severe shyness
OBOT 57 USUALLY STARTED
early, just before the sun was
out. His first two weeks on the
job were fine, but by the third week his
job didn't interest him. This only made
sense. 57 had better things going on
than loading all the trash and junk into
big piles for the trucks to come pick up.
He would arrange it into clever-looking
junk houses for the people who lived on
the streets to sleep in. This made 57's
superiors unhappy because the whole
idea was to remove all the junk so the
people on the streets would move out
and go to different areas. The people at
the lab where 57 was created had him
back in for fixing. When the lab people
did all their fixing, they sent Robot 57
back out into the street to remove junk
and debris. 57 started piling up the junk
without discrimination. Now the only
things that separated junk from not-junk
were heartbeats and existing structures
like poles, walls, doorways, street signs,
and any type of structure that was built
by city codes and city standards. If a
structure was not built by permit, if it
was not on file or registered in the city's
database, then more than likely the
structure would be demolished by the
huge hands of Robot 57.

Israeli police Monday carry Palestinian woman from house in village
near Jerusalem. The home, built without a permit, was demolished.
It was dark out, probably 4:00 AM. 57
was on his way to work his big black
machinery. He moved through the
industrial area and into the lower depths
of the bad part of town, where he would
begin work. 57's eyes were blue laser
beams. His eyes were more powerful
than infrared. They were alpha-blue, bank told him to leave the truck alone.
able to zap onto an object and know its
makeup within seconds.
Off Alameda, Robot 57 began work.
Boom smash ba ba boom! His huge arms
started to rip apart a small taco stand
which was built without proper blueprints
or in accordance with the city's building
law. Luckily no one was inside. After the
taco stand was flat, Robot 57 began sort-
ing out the debris into piles. Now the sun
was up. The owner of the taco stand
drove up in a silver GMC truck that had
tinted windows. He parked and got out,
screaming, "Holy shit!" in Spanish.
Robot 57 did not pause from his job.
He only zapped his eyes onto the silver
truck. The information that the truck
was a legal, working, registered vehicle
went to his senses bank, and his senses
Robot 57 did leave it alone. Now he was
finished with the taco stand. He moved
on down the road to destroy and clean
or clear out something new. The owner
was swearing profusely and following
57.57 took no notice of this. Now he was
at a pretty large piece of property that
was fenced in by brick and barbed wire.
The brick wall was built by city stan-
dards, but the barbed wire at the top was
put there without notification.
Immediately 57 began to take down the
sharp barbed wire. It was nothing for 57.
His large hands were light and strong, a
special kind of titanium not available to
ordinary citizens. Luckily the titanium
that 57 was made up of was strong,
because now the man who owned the
taco stand was whacking 57 across the
back of his head with a 2x4. This made
it hard for Robot 57 to continue his work.
He turned around to see what was
throwing his balance off, when his eyes.
hit the owner of the taco stand. Robot
57's senses told him it was a temporary
citizen holding a piece of wood, aka
loose debris, in hand. Robot 57 removed.
the debris and chucked it far off over by
where the flattened taco stand was..
Robot 57 began to work again.
The taco stand owner was still there
behind Robot 57 screaming, "I was gonna
register my stand, you son of a bitch, you
had no right." Robot 57 continued to
remove the barbed wire, ignoring the
man's obnoxious voice. Now the taco
stand owner pulled out a pistol, but before
he could get off a shot, some plainclothed
police officers apprehended him. Even
is about to hit the market.
with the cuffs on, the taco stand owner kept
screaming. It didn't seem to bother him that the
robot had no understanding of his anger or rage.
The officers laughed 'cause they were not
robots. They were temporary citizens doing gov-
ernment duty. They told the taco stand owner to
watch his head when they put him into their car.
Robot 57 was now done removing the barbed
wire. 57's blue eyes scanned along a brick wall
at the bottom. 57 saw something moving along
fast. His eyes followed it but could not zap onto
this object. When 57's alpha-blue eyes finally
zapped on, they locked on. Now the information
went to his senses department and his senses
department told him that the object his eyes had
zapped onto was a rodent: a public pest.
Rodents were not assigned to Robot
57's duties. His eyes went else-
where, inspecting other things.
Now Robot 57's eyes zapped onto
a cat that was hardly alive. Robot
57 picked the small cat up and rested him on top
of his huge square head. Robot 57's senses told
him that the cat would be safe there. Now Robot
had a passenger. He had to have a name for his
passenger. Robot 57 noticed immediate changes
happening ever since he picked up the cat.
His job was no longer important. The only
thing he wanted to do was find food for the cat.
Nourishing the cat back to health was 57's only
concern. No longer did he look for things that
were not built with correct city specification. 57
was a robot gone AWOL. His superiors were
going crazy by now. Wait, I changed my mind.
His superiors were quite pleased that he had
human-like instincts and was able to feel com-
passion. 57 no longer checked in to be charged
up. He had a new kind of charge to give him
energy. It was seeing the cat eat and get health-
ier and stronger and bigger. In fact, after a month
or so, Kittie and Robot were able to talk to one
another. The two were an odd couple but
nonetheless a kind of team that strolled the
streets looking for mice, rats, and unhealthy cats.
