Yesterday's heroes often become
today's nobodies, but a few find
fame in a desk or a drum kit.
Clockwise from far left: In the '80s Steve Caballero
reigned supreme as the casual ace of air. Check out
this judo at Raging Waters in San Jose in 1987.
Beautiful. The first African-American vert pro,
Steve Steadham, has his eyes on the next wall as he
rolls into a big vert ramp in Seattle in 1988. Long
before the Warner Ave mob even contemplated the
stuntwood lifestyle, Birdhouse CEO Per Welinder
was placing top ten in street contests, headband
and all. A pre pop shove-it gorilla grab varial off a
loading dock in 1986. The power, the style, it's gotta
be Christian Hosoi snappin' off a concrete hip at the
Hellhole in Daly City in 1985. Big ups to Holmes. All
