DAVE
ARON
All Photos By Mike O'Meally
find it amazing that this is the first time this particular individual has
graced the pages of this magazine. No other artist working today has
managed to capture the purest essence of skateboarding in the unique
way David Aron has. His paintings, abstract cryptograms, usually on pieces of
wood from the garbage, read like road maps to a skater's existence. Almost
always black and white, his lines reflect the grace and aggression of perpetual
movement, maneuvering the complex cityscape of his subconscious mind.
Now 28, David has been skating for 18 years. Traveling is core to his being.
Originally from Los Angeles, he has lived in London and Australia and New
York City (his permanent headquarters), always getting by with not much else
besides his board and some brushes and paints. The spirit of adventure, dis-
covery and action are the forces that activate both David Aron's skating and
his paintings. As you can see from the images on these pages, he shows not
signs of slowing down on either front. -A Miller
