Where: An hour north of LA on the 101.
What: A rectangular concrete bowl with mini-ramps, transitions,
and steel coping, a streetstyle course with quarterpipes, banks,
Philly-style volcanos, low rails, ledges, hips, and a fun box with
corresponding ledges.
Locals: Ten percent modern street skaters, 10% slash dogs, 80%
combination of inliners, beginners, bike goons and little girls run-
ning around screaming.
Crash-up Derby Factor: 8 out of 10.
Surface: Medium smooth, brushed concrete.
When to Hit It: School days before 2:30.
Good: Fast coping, good fun box, possible speed lines, fairly
spaced out, free, no pads required.
Bad: Bowl is slow, banks too mellow, volcanos kind of useless,
surrounded by sea of mud.
Overall: 7 out of 10.
Directions: Off Hwy 101, take Lewis Rd east, then take a left on
Temple. The park is by the Boys and Girls Club.
WEST PALM BEACH, FL
Where: East coast of Florida.
What: Extreme snowboard Masonite maxi-kickers, three
killer concrete pools: 9', 8', and 4'.
Locals: Religious zealots and family-oriented friends.
Crash-up Derby Factor: 4 out of 10.
Surface: Masonite and concrete.
When To Hit It: When the sun goes down.
Good: Tile and coping, sweet mini-ramp, left-hand kidney.
Bad: Wrist-guards, John 3:16.
Overall: 7 out of 10.
Directions: It's in back of the YMCA-you can't miss it.
