Dear Thrasher, AWFUL TRUTHS
I am writing this letter in honor of one of the greatest human beings I
have ever had the privilege of knowing. His name was Dane M. Rempfer.
He was a true friend to everyone that knew him and his death has changed.
the lives of each and everyone of them. On November 7th at about 12:15am,
Dane and a few friends that were walking down the street, decided to cross.
There was a man driving in the wrong lane, with his headlights out, going
about 85mph that hit Dane and killed him instantly. He then proceeded to
drive away turning this accident into a hit-and-run. The man was drunk.
Dane was 15 years old and had just began to live his life. He was a
skateboarder and a friend, and if not for him I probably wouldn't be skating.
I owe many fun times and many laughs to Dane and hope that he will never
be forgotten. And before you go to that party downtown tonight, think about
how you'll be getting home and don't drink that one last drink.

Hit-and-run driver kills teen
NORTH BEND A 15-year-old
North Bend youth was struck by a
car and killed early yesterday as he
was crossing the street, according to
the King County Sheriff's Office.
Dane M. Rempfer was walking
across East Ribary Way at North
Bend Boulevard South about 12:15
am. when he was struck by the car,
which did not stop after the accident.
authorities said.
The car, which was traveling
west on Ribary Way, is described as
white, with front-end damage and a
broken front license plate frame,
authorities said.
Anyone with information about
the accident is asked to call the King
County Sheriff's Office at 206-296-
3311.

Skateboarders: Switch
Children on skateboards are much more likely than those
on inline skates or roller skates to have serious injuries, par
ticularly head injuries, a new study has found.
A research team evaluated data on 598 skating injuries
requiring hospitalization in children 5 to 19. More than 16
percent of skateboarders' injuries were severe or critical,
compared with about 7 percent among inline skaters and 2
percent in roller skaters. Head injuries made up 51 percent
of the serious cases among skateboarders, 34 percent
among inline skaters and 19 percent among roller skaters.
Based on the results, the authors recommend trying to
persuade skateboarders to take up inline skating or roller
skating instead.
