The soul of our great
sport has been ripped
apart and shit on, then
rebuilt, over and over.
All the while we lose
many brothers and sis-
ters to the world and all
the paths it presents..
Mostly they're all
fucked up reasons.
Anything that keeps you
from riding forever is
fucked. I've been riding
for fifteen years and

been all over the world. Been to hell,
came back, then went back to hell
(which is where I'm writing from). My
hell is in a faraway place called Bosnia.
It's a a place they send dumbasses who
at some point in their worthless fucked
up existence decide the Army wouldn't
be all that bad. December '95 till
November '96: no skating for me. Now,
May '98 till hopefully October. All the
while my soul was still with it. Still, I'm
not looking for sympathy, just saying
shit to say it, I guess. I figure since I
been reading Thrasher and riding as
long as I have it's my turn to get a let-
ter in Mail Drop. Why not? I was
inspired to write after reading
"Jailbreak" in the July issue. It was the
first Thrasher I'd seen in four months.
Life was good today. Anyway, yeah, I

used to skate with Shawn Lafley back
in the day. Cool-ass motherfucker too.
He's a prime example of what I'm say-
ing. "Yeah, life sucks sometimes and
I've done some shit that some didn't
like. And yeah, I'm paying for it, but
amidst it all I'm still a fuckin' skater and
nothing will stop that, ever. So the
world can piss off! 'Cause I've got my
shit together more than anyone
knows." At least that's how I see it.
Even my own brother who's doin' his
time for over five years now-I know
his heart and soul will
always be with skating. And
next spring we'll both be
freed into societal slavery
and rollin' together once
again. The last time we
rode together was the sum-
mer of '92. Seven years.
Now that's heart! How
could anybody ever quit?
Fuckin' losers. Well, I'm
not gonna drag this out
much longer. Let me just
I say at 23 years old that a
lot of the pissant things in
life don't matter. Hopefully.
some of you young broth-
ers will keep that in mind
when you feel like quitting.
Don't let shit bring you
down. I've been in this
army since August '94 and in
Germany since March '95. I went back
to America for 20 days in '96. So I'm
pretty much clueless to the size of the
skate scene. But if skating is the
"cool" thing to do, don't quit once it's
not so "cool" anymore. Keep the faith!
It's not about who's better. It's about
being you and that's all you ever gotta
do. In four months I'll be out. Thanks
Lao Tzu. And to anybody I know still
reading Thrasher, now you know
where I've been for the past four
years. Sorry for not telling ya'll and
just disappearing. Life's funny like
that. And to my brother, we'll be rollin'
