Clockwise from left:
Tim O'Connor tweaks a
tasty tuck-knee transfer
over the quarterpipe.
Under the buzz of West
End's fluorescent lights,
Danny Morin thumps a
ripe melon to fakie into
first place. Mike
Manidas holds on tight
to tame this bucking
bronco backside shifty
over the box.
O ANYWAY, I TAKE A DAY TRIP
with a few of my friends to the
West End Skatepark, some-
where in Brodheadsville, PA.
They tell me, "Yo, there's gonna
be a sick contest up there, yo!
But you gotta hurry, 'cause we
gotta get up there dumb fast!"
In retrospect, it sounded like a good plan:
check out the contest, shoot some photos,
maybe get a story out of it for Thrasher
magazine. Well, it didn't quite work out
that way. Most of my day was spent
either trying to talk to girls or standing out-
side in the rain, smoking cigarettes with
all the cool kids. I didn't see who did the
trick of the day (Andy Mac's backside ollie
out of the quarter to wallride), I didn't real-
ly catch who won (Danny Morin, flawless
first run), and I don't know who else
placed (second and third went to Andy
Mac and Ron Gordon, respectively). I did
manage to see Tim O'Connor give the park
a swift kick in the buttocks after the con-
test was over and Kerry Getz do his first
ollie in three months. Rad. Thanks to
Danny, owner and operator of West End
for a well-handled contest, and Jim for
driving me home when I forgot how to use
my stupid lungs, yo!
