            NOTES FROM THE UNDERGROUND
T
he latest blast of estrogen-
fueled rock comes in the form
of FDS, which stands for
Female Dominated Society (and I
thought it stood for feminine deodor-
ant spray!). They've put out a CD
entitled Provoked, and it's cliché-
ridden death metal record, complete
with double bass drumming, lyrics
about hell and/or surgical proce-
dures, chunky guitars and throaty
vocals. Dirty hessians take
note...Norton records has just reis-
sued two of the classic punk LPs of
all time: The Sonics' Here are the.
and The Wailers' At the Castle, two
Northwest bands playing hopped-up.
revved-out P-U-N-K, recorded in the
early sixties. And you thought punk
started in the late seventies...His
schtick may be wearing thin, but El
Vez (The Mexican Elvis) still packs
'em in and brings down the house.
His latest is a 10" on Sympathy,
Lad From Spain?, and if you can get
past the scary Bowie-esque cover,
there's a few chuckles on the

Committee is at it again. Their first

one has Dan Rather blurting out
a stream of negativity over
AC/DC. Yes! Get this before the
lawsuits come to bear...Electric
Frankenstein has a new single on
Estrus called "You're So Fake." It's
got a real early guitar punk feel à la
Dictators, and, well, it smokes!...007

ting the fan in Indonesia (drought,
food shortages, political turmoil and
an enormous economic crisis), it's no
wonder that there's a burgeoning
punk scene. My friend Charli sent me

Stay true!-Wez Lundry...After a bot-
tle of the 120, a Chilean Rebel nectar,
it was a fine affair to suck some Pabst
out of Bottom of the Hill and witness
à do-it-yourself pyrotechnic extrava-
ganza by The Toiletboys and watch
the damned cuteness of The
Donnas. The frontman from the
Toiletboys has his shit down, a
got
bubblegum chewin', fire breathin',
devil man-bitch-vestite, who along
with a crew of old York style rockers
disappeared into a whiteout of Glam
smoke, a must-see for all. In anticipa-
tion of the now almost famous
Donnas, the Bottom of the Hill kept
the crowd drinking with the dark
metallic sounds of In Search Of, the
recent release from Fu Manchu.
Although they are prime to be
conditioned for
MTV
Breakfast Special, The
Donnas are still awkwardly
innocent girls who
rocked an amazing
cover of AC/DC's

titled Hellbilly, which can
only be described by the
album cover of two mean
swamp gals posing in front of a
swamp shack with a big mosqui-
to perched on the bumper of a
blood-spattered Glen Barr mys-
tery rod. Well, what the hell, they
were pretty good and they did
take care of business with GI
Blues and King Creole. With an
Easter Island stage set that was
almost washed by Stinky's lint lights
and glow art, the Bomboras really
are practitioners of volcano voodoo
nightmares and strange Indian magic
complete with organ and go-go
dancers.

as
they've
added a third guinea pig to the pri-

Soldiers is the Frankenstein's mon-
ster soundtrack that will undoubt-
edly be annoying your eardrums
for the next few months with its
uninspired updates of '80s hits
like "Another One Bites the Dust"
and "War." What is this market-
core drivel good for? Absolutely
nothing. On a more positive note,
the wait is over for Time Waits For
No Man, the full length album
from the Bay Area's latest under-
ground hip-hop superhero:
Rasco. The production squad on
this jammy reads like the guest list
from an ITF (International
Turntablist Federation) event.
Some of the illest turntablists
around meld with Rasco's flow for
