my sister, we started an independent life. It
was good to do that. After a while, since we
were separated from my mom and younger
sister down there, I'd always tell them when I
went back that they should move out here. But
we owned a house down there, and it wasn't
really a good idea at the time. We weren't set-
tled here or anything and we didn't know what
was going on, so we couldn't just sell the
house and move out. Then I kept saying to
Rebecca, "You've got to go to school and learn

Now you have a nice space?
Now we're stoked. We moved out to this
house in Daly City. It was me, Mom, and my
two sisters in this big house. Now it's just me,
Rebecca, and my mom. My older sister got
married and moved out.
It seems like Brazilians are showing up in
the mags and placing really high in con-

hands and working the right way. Then my sis-
ter moved out, so it was only my mom down
there. She couldn't be away from her kids, so
she sold the house and moved out. We were all
in a two bedroom apartment. There were six
of us because my friends were there. It was
stressful, but I was always traveling so it was
all right. Whenever I'd get back, I always want-
ed to leave the house and go skating or just go
back to sleep, but they were living it 24-7.
They couldn't do anything. You'd be kicking
something in the water?
People started skating with all their might
again. The mentality with Brazilians now is "I
want to go to the states and skate." I'm
stoked that they're motivated to do it, but I
think also there's a scene in Brazil, and things
there to be taken care of. There's little kids that
have started skating, and if everyone leaves,
what's there for them to hang on to? That's
why we try to go back and enter contests as
much as we can, even though they don't pay
that good, or it's not well organized. I don't
care about that. I skate contests here, but I just
want to go there and stoke those kids out, to
have them see that you're real. I had this one
