This text is about skateboarding
and Vermont, where nobody gives a
fuck if you're sponsored,
if you're pro, or if you
have your own
sneaker and get
paid to skate.
They could
care less.
see!
These fellas ride for life and
for fun.
All you "yo-yo fresh" guys are
welcome. Just make sure to keep
your egos and attitudes at home,
and everything will be OK.
'Cause you see, in God's
country, they don't dial 911;
they shoot to kill.
And kill it, they do. With fre-
quent visits from Tim Upson,
Jim Gagne, T Jolt, Toma and
others, "The Pit" is home to
some of the most high-energy
sessions currently happening in
the world. In the tradition of
ZT's, The Hut, CT's, W Bros,
Cheapskates, The Playground;
and parallel with the ripping
scenes of Montreal, Philly, New
York and Baltimore/DC,
Vermont's got it all: great skating,
great people, natural surround-
ings, chainsaws, off-road,
cars, bikes, coal miners'
daughters, beer and some
of the oldest druid ruins on
the continent. Oh, yeah,
and some decent snow-
boarding, too.
A few weeks ago, Merk
threw a harvest session at
the ramp in Jamaica (VT).
Ray Barbee and Salman
Agah were in the
house. So were some
of the "flatlanders"
from NYC such as
Andre Page, Mike Con
and Frank Gerwer.
It was the last jam
before Old Man Winter
comes to town. Soon
enough the mountains
will be covered with
snow, and the snow-
board dorks will infest
the area. And the die
hards-the few and
proud-will retreat to
the corners of "The Pit"
to warm themselves
through yet another
season. -Dan Zimmer

exclusive photo of the elusive
northern trog-fairy; we stumbled
upon him sleeping peacefully
under the transition of Merk's
ramp. Dan Zimmer zings a tailslide
from low to high at the Cutting
Edge. Jeff Toma tosses a
frontside stinker into the night air
above Merk's ramp. Back at The
Pit, Merk milks a crailslide.
