GONE
IKE A DARK CLOUD OF NOXIOUS VAPORS, Dead And Gone may
an
one scary scene in Alfred Hitchcock's movie The Birds-where the
sky turns dark, and birds fly frantically about, eager to peck out
someone's eyeballs-was a band, there is absolutely no doubt in my
mind that it would be the Bay Area's Dead And Gone.
STINK
Former members of Filth, Blatz, Jack Acid and Special
Forces make up the band, and the amalgamation clicks.
They've already released their first full-length, TV Baby; a
7"; a few compilation tracks; and have just put out their
newest record, God Loves Everyone But You. For the
uninitiated, it could just be the straw that breaks the
camel's back and sends the listener into fits of self-
doubt induced, razor blade equipped self-mutilation. Or,
you could merely dig the heavy and powerful chops
screaming forth from your turntable.
Live shows can be a dark and gloomy affair, so skip
the shower, wear black, add a layer of crust, and spare
enough change to get some beer in your gut before you
check out the show. Once inside, you'll be assaulted
by chops thicker than Fred Flintstone's, served over a
feedback stew, with a punch-in-the-gut for dessert. You
may need some time to recuperate after the show, so
plan some quiet time to get your head together.
You might detect some early Neurosis in their sound, a
band they've often been compared to. But there's more of
a hardcore edge, with an early Die Kruezen feel. Not sur-
prising, considering singer Shane says he reads
Thrasher and used to turn to Pushead for
his audio advice. So, do your dark side a
favor and turn on to Dead And Gone.
