Day 2
SAT 22nd '97
We regained conscious-
ness to options of full band
equipment and a sick mini-
bowl with pool coping. After
Kirby and I laid down some
serious jammage, we went
to a local skate contest.
There was a killer launch
ramp session in full swing
effect-hella girls, mass
goons. Fortunately, we had
stuff to skate, so we left with
our fearless tour guide,
Shag. We'd been drilling
everyone for pool info, and
nobody had any clues.
When we got to the mini-
ramp, Shag says, "Oh, yeah,
there is a pool here! Stoked!"
A smooth 7' mini and a nice
tight hole for us to ride.

Days In
Arizona
Day 1
Lag, lag, lag, lag,
more lagging.
Enter drama. Oh,
shit, more lagging.
Finally, we hit the
road bound for
Tempe, Arizona.
With Kirby driving,
Sage, Raf, and I
embarked on a
skateboarding
adventure to skate
as much concrete
as possible. After a
couple bowls and
some rockin' tunes,
we reached our
first destination:
Jimi's house.
Sweet mini-bowl
Thanks Jimi
Day 3
The BMXers at the mini told us about a pool
they'd been riding. So, we finally got out of Jimi's
house, and after some drama, we drove to the pool.
Bail, bail, then dry with a blanket. Let the games
begin. Highlights of the session were almost every-
thing Kirby did, Jimi almost airing the whole pock-
et, Sage's inverts, Mikey's Bert revert over death.
Kirby and I had formed a musical bond the first
time we jammed. That night we went to the
Melody Lounge, and after some coaxing, they let
us play some tunes on their gear.
Day 4
We were headed for Albuquerque today until we
ran into some musicians who told us about the
weather problems. Snow, snow, and more snow
were our main deterrents. While driving back on the
freeway, we spied a voluptuous ditch right next to
us. We took the next exit and proceeded to look for
the ditch and pools. Hope, hope. On our search, we
saw some grommets, so we asked them about any
nearby pools or ramps ditches or anything
else good to skate. They told us about the
Beardsley ditch that they were going to go skate.
We got to the ditch right after the kids and their
beer drinking and driving mom. The ditch was
really fun with gaps, channels, grinder bars, and
hips. After skating for a while, we drilled the kids
about sketchy directions to the ever-so-funky,
Thrasher Land. We hopped the fence and head-
ed for the Scoop. The Scoop kicks ass. There are
three ramps, a 3' mini-spine, a 6' mini-ramp, a
sketchy 9' tall, 8' wide U-pipe, and a 20' tall full-
pipe. Thrasher Land has some unique surface
qualities, namely a molded plastic, fiberglass
substance. The ramps are sectional, and some
sections aren't bolted together.
Day 5
We needed to skate more pools, so we got more
sketchy directions to the Ghost Town pool. We
arrived in Tucson, and after some trouble, we found
the pool. It's rad and capsule-shaped with a nice

tight tranny. One local kid showed up and invited us to his mini-ramp
complex-four ramps all together, two hips, and a spine. After that we
went to Circle K to get food and hook up with some bunk chicks, who
had no play and no place to stay, so we headed for the No Tell Motel.
They saw that there were more than two people, so we got the boot
from there. We found another hotel to stay the night at.

Wake up! Time to go skate! On our way down the
street, we saw an empty, fenced-up Motor Inn that
obviously had a pool. We went and checked it out
and proceeded to bail it. All of the sudden, some
college-looking puke comes up and starts freaking
out. We calmed him down and talked him into com-
ing back later. We went to Ghost Town again for
another kill sesh. Back to the bowl to bail some real-
ly stank water.
Day 7
Wake up to a killer homemade breakfast (thanks,
Sage) at Adolf's home. After some lagging, we were
off to the Sahara pool. Super fun session was going
down, everyone grinding and blasting airs. Then
came the rains, which put an end to our Arizona
saga. Thanks to Kirby, Sage, Raf, Mikey, Shag, Jimi,
and all the other crusters. -Tait Roelofs
