descendents
From getting kids riled up in 1978 through vocalist Milo Aukerman's fluctuating love affair
with biochemistry, the Descendents have since gotten back together, much to the delight of
their loyal fans. Drummer Bill Stevenson shares some insight on their latest release, Everything
Sucks, as well as the band's other gig, All.
Why did the Descendents decide to get back together?
It was kind of the next step for us. 3/4 of us were already together in All. It was Milo who wanted to
get back into music. He had become bored with just being in the laboratory all the time and wanted to
start playing again. We thought it would be fun and a good idea, but All already had a singer, Chad Price,
so we decided it would make more sense to have two bands-Descendents with Milo singing, and All
with Chad. That would make everyone happy
How has tour been going so far?
We just got back from six weeks in Europe, and that
went really well. That was the first time we had been over
there with the Descendents. Before that we did six weeks in
the US, which also went really well. That was kind of unex-
pected. I'm really happy that everyone is very excited
about the new record rather than just being excited about
our older music. They're current with us and listening to
our newest music
Do you have plans for another record?
We're going to tour the rest of this year with Milo, then
we're going to record another All album and tour with Chad,
In the song "Thank You," which band were you referring to?
Not one i
in particular. It's the way the song works. Each person who listens
to it can sort of assign that role to whichever band they think about.
Does anyone in the band skate?
We all used to skate in high school, but at this point, to shred is to
break a wrist and cancel a tour, so we're a little paranoid of that.
Who are your influences?
There's only three of them, two of which I don't think too many
people have heard of One is Last, and the other is the Alley Cats,
they're both from LA. Then, of course, Black Flag
