HADDO DEAL
Recently I got busted at school with about
$2.00 worth of marijuane. When I got
home, my parents started yelling at me,
which I expected. But what my dad said was.
the most pathetic thing I'd ever heard. He
said that the only reason I got busted was
because I skate and that all skaters are loser
drug users. He tried to take away my clothes
and took away all my Mislits posters
because skulls relate to Satan and Satan
relates to drugs. He also bought me all the
latest Polo clothes and is going to "force me
to wear them."

TAXES AT WORK
I was without a car one
day and was skating the
church across the street
from my house. When I
was skating home the
mcilman stepped me to
give me my mail. He said,
"Let me see that thing,"
referring to my Plan B
board. I soid, "Sere." He
asked me to hold his mail
bog, so I did. He did some weak ass ollie.
Then he hesitated and busted a phamy kick
flip. Damn! He works for the government
after skating as a teen, he said. Go figure.

MR UNDERSTOOD
I'm writing in response to all the "con-

cerned mothers who write is complaining
about the contents of your magazine. I have
been skating for about 10 years and have
been reading Thrasher for about that long.
Let's see... I am a vegetarian, substitute
teacher, reporter and photographer (holding
two real jobs"), and Sunday School teacher
with a BA in English from one of the nation's
most respected small colleges. Dog! Where
did I go wrong? I don't want to sound like
the all-American man," but I feel I am
proof that Thrasher magazine is not the road
to destruction. If anything, Thrasher helped
me gain my own views. There are plen
ty of views of which I disagree. Many
Times, I recognize it as what it is: a
safirical joke. Or I do what I feel all
people (especially parents)
should do, which is look beyond
lebels to find the meaning The
messages presented, especially in
Angel Dust, have often become mot
tos by which I live: "Choose your
idols, but blaze your own path."
Gee, telling children to do what they
feel is right instead of following
someone else. It's a good thing you
don't let your children read the
Teachings of Christ, Buddha or
Gandhi. What gutter would they
end up in then? (If you don't rec-
ognize my satire, don't bother!)
When I was growing up, Thrasher and
skateboarding helped me steer away from
drugs, racism, narrow-mindedness and all
sorts of evil in the world. Although I may be
harted for saying this, big ups to Tom Knox
for presenting his straight-edge views; they
helped me a lot in high school/junior high
In dosing, I want to encourage mothers
to open their minds to new experiences.
