Officer recovering
from injuries after
skateboard attack

Beach police
officer is recovering from
injuries sustained when a man
struck him in the face with a
skateboard Aug. 20.
Police said the officer, a nine-
year veteran, pulled into the
Mobile Gas Station it
Brookhurst Street and Hamilton
Avenue while responding to call
of an attempted robbery in
progress at 8:52 pm.
According to police reports,
Shane Cole, 21, charged the
officer and struck him in the face
with a skateboard. After an
unsuccessful attempt to defend
himself using his baton, the
officer sprayed Cole with pepper
spray but it had no effect on the
allacker
The officer then fired one shot
from his service revolver that
