REPORTAGE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY

Rhode Island was the location,
and I was there three hours after
leaving the capital of the East Coast,
NYC. The X Games, which used to be
"Extreme," were to take place in
both Providence and Newport.
Unsure of their photogenic possibil-
ities due to corporate hype, these
games would be captured by my
roving eye, F4 included.
Downhill street luge, in-line, bungy,
and bike jumping were held in
Providence. Winding down College Hill
was the downhill course. In-liners
crashed as the street lugers zipped by. I
left the capital of André the Giant and
birthplace of Subliminal and moved my
focus to the real sport of the games,
skateboarding. (Note: See Rolling Stone
for Mark Selinger's coverage of
Providence events.)
In Newport, about an hour bus ride
away from Providence, I found the
goods. Tired of listening to teenage gos-
sip (the bus ride was horrible) and
being faced with lazy service (a one-
hour ride turned into two), I threw my
chew out and put my film in. Knowing
what to expect because of my previous
year at Ft Adams, I slowly stalked the
event. From vert practice to the street
finals, I wondered if this whole ESPN

It seems that the main focus of the whole event is
usually the bar. Chris Senn adapts quickly to any
media circus. Frontside 50/50's the tall one.
