Early Tuesday, June 4:
After a twelve-hour drive, we pulled into
San Francisco. We headed to Chip Vani
Hamm's and Derrick Metton's apartment in
the avenues. Dave and I stayed there, Jim
went to his friend Nikhail's, and Dirty went
to his friend Ben's. We went to Thrasher
headquarters for the next three days and
skated all over the city with Chip's friends
from Chicago, Mike Ryzchke, and Chip's
roommate. Dan. We also went to Santa Rosa
and skated the park with Brian Gaberman.
Jim decided he wanted to have a cook-out
on one of the grills behind the park, so we
did. On our final day in SF, we went to Ft
Miley and skated and drank a lot of beer.
Tommy Guerrero and Karma Tsocheff
showed up, and everyone had a good time.
Phelps gave us a cooler to put food in, and
we were off to Southern California.
Early Saturday Morning, June 8th:
We arrived at John Lucero's house at 1:35
am. We parked the car on the front lawn,
broke into the house through the bathroom
window, and Jim, Kentucky, and Dirty drank
all of Lucero's beer. Lucero came home with
Grigley and two girls to find us in his living
room, listening to Iron Maiden very loudly.
I think he was bummed.
The next day we woke up, ate all his
food, and picked up Brian Patch on
our way to Chicken's pool. Grosso and
Skip Pronier were already there rag-
ing, so we joined the session. Right as
we were about to leave, Bob
Burnquist showed up with a Brazilian
entourage and just destroyed it.
Lucero took us to Mike Lohrman's
ramp, which is brand new. Dirty
drew first blood on the ramp by
splitting open his chin. Very cool.
Monday, June 10th:
We woke up late, went to the Label,
picked up boards, and split. Our desti-
nation: home. Forty hours later we were
in Kentucky. After sleeping and skating.
we loaded up and headed east. Eleven
hours later we were home, and Jim was
on his way to a beer fest in Canada.
Driving cross-country is a really
good experience and something that
everyone should do at least once.
Most skaters are lucky in that there
are a lot of people all over the coun
try who will put them up for a night
or help them out. Do it now before
you're too old and you can't. T
