78 THRASHER
The first time i met Mark was on one
of those rare days when Portland is
covered in white. I didn't know much
about him then besides the fact that he
was the main man behind Burnside. I
asked him if he would mind me shooting
some video, and he just started doing
some of the craziest stunts I've seen to
this day.
Ever since that snowy day, Red has
been my favorite skateboarder. He also
stands behind what to my knowledge is
the first constantly evolving skatepark.
if
f you asked him about it, he certainly
wouldn't take all the credit for it,
because one of his best qualities is his
humbleness. There have been many
Burnside,
people who've helped work on
but Red is the backbone. Every time a
new piece goes up, I'm amazed at the
work that goes into it, and I doubt
there's a sculptor in the world that
wouldn't also be in awe. It's a truly
unique process, because every time is
different and improvisation is the key.

Another unusual aspect is that
Burnside hasn't been funded by
city or state. It consists entirely
of materials that were either
donated or paid for by skaters.
This might sound more like a
story about Burnside than one
about Mark Scott, but that's only
because Red is Burnside. One
couldn't exist without the other.
it's his constantly changing
masterpiece. The finest piece of
art
I've ever enjoyed.

My words can't come close to
doing Mark justice, so you'll just
have to take my word that Red is
a truly remarkable person. He's
got the fire and is burning fierce.
