How old are
you?
by yourself back
then?
I just turned
eighteen.
How many
years have you
been skating?
About five
How did you
get started in
skating? Who
turned you on
to it or how
did it happen?
I saw these
two boys skat-
ing, and it
looked interest-
ing, then I want-
ed to skate. Then
I started skat-
ing, and it was
cool.
And then you
had friends
who skat-
ed as well,
or you just
skated
I just skated
with those two
guys, and then I
met all these
guys, and they
said I could skate
with them, so I
skated with them,
sort of.
came down here. I
had fun skating
with the Real crew
when they came
here.
Was that when
Tommy and Jim
were over there?
Yeah, they'd
never seen a girl
step on a skate-
board before. But
Since you've
been skating,
have you met
it's all good. Right
when I first met
other girls who
skate?
them I didn't
Nope.
Why do you think
more girls don't
skate?
They are prob-
ably afraid of get-
ting hurt and get-
ting "dirty."
What's been your
worst injury?
I broke my
middle finger.
Who are your
friends that you
skate with?
Right now,
Darren Lee,
Alfred,
Alika, Brian,
Kit, I used to skate
with that little rat
Matt
Rodriguez
when he
introduce myself,
because I was too
shy, and then I
was skating at The
damsels
Hangar, and I did
a nollie heelflip,
and Jim was just
all, "Shit, I can't
even do a nollie
heelflip!" It was
funny.
What do you do
when you're not
skating?
Kick it. Drink
Heineken. Or, if
not, just hang out
with my friends,
or just go to the
beach.
Do you have a
boyfriend?
An ex-boyfriend.
What do you
plan to do in the
future?
To keep on
skating and when
I graduate this
year, go to
Community
College.
Do you have any
aspirations for a
career of any
sort? What are
you interested
in?
Cooking or to be
an entrepreneur.
Who would you
like to thank?
I'd like to
thank my friend
GeeMee; every-
body from Real,
especially Tommy;
Greg Carroll;
Darren Lee; my
mom and step-
dad; my brother;
everybody from
Town
and
Country, especial-
ly Alfred; and Kai.
How old
are you,
where
do you
live, and
long
have you
skating?
the guys I skate with
start treating me differ-
ent. They're a little sex-
ist. I think they don't
understand that I'm just
skating for fun, not for
anything else. You
couldn't classify me as a
pro-ho. Most guys
don't even think a girl
alison lee
I'm
fifteen-
years-
old, I live
in San
Jose, and I've been
skating for about a
year.
How did you first
start skating?
I just got bored just
sitting at home, so I
went to the
skateshop and
bought a board.
What are some of
your favorite ter-
rain and places to
skate?
I like skating in San
Francisco and San
Jose. As far as ter-
rain goes, ramps
and blocks are my
preferences.
What's the scene
like in San Jose?
There are way too
many cops. I got
two tickets just for
pushing down the
sidewalk and had to
pay for both of them
myself. I don't even
have a job. Every
time I see a cop, 1
have to run. It seems
like there's so many
other things they
could be doing than
ticketing kids for
skateboarding.
How do you think
it's different being
a so-called "girl
skater"?
could ollie a curb.
When they see me
skate, they're like,
"What?"
Do you think there
should be more girl
skaters?
Yeah, there should
be way more girls who
skate, not girls that look
like they skate, that
way, I could have some-
one to skate with.
What skaters do you
look up to?
Jamie Reyes, defi-
nitely, and Marc
Johnson. I look up to all
the skaters who do it
for themselves, not just
for the money or what-
ever else, like Crazy
Eddie, for example.
What are you future
plans with skating?
I think I'm going to
try to get more motivat-
ed to skate more. Right
now I only skate like
two or three days a
week, but when spring
comes, I'll have way
more time to skate. I
just want to keep push-
ing myself to get bet
ter and better.
What do your parents
have to say about this
whole skate thing?
They totally support
what I'm doing, but
they don't want me to
get hurt. I still have to
buy my own boards,
though.
Is there anyone that
Because most of you want to thank?
Yeah, I want
to thank Kevin H,
Andy Montaya,
Mike, Maribell,
and last but not
least, my parents.
Oh, and I'd like to
say hi to the guys
at Go Skatel
Cindy GORSET
How old are you?
Unknown.
Where do you live?
Seattle, Washington..
Who do you look up to the
most?
I really don't look up to any-
one, but my favorite skaters are
Where do you like to skate and Natas, Hensley, Koston and my
with whom?
I like to street,
skate downtown,
even though it's a
bust, and the
skatepark when
it's open. Anyone
who doesn't call
me a betty.
What's it like
being a mom
and a skater?
It's fun. I like
to ride with my
son. He stands
on the front and I
stand on the back
downhill.
brother, Dan. Ryan Aningalan and
my best
friend Tony
are fun to
skate with,
and all
those
skaters who
do crazy
tricks.
What do
you hate.
about skat-
ing?
Skaters
who think
and push. He likes to go fast everyone else is trying to "show
them up," especially if they do the
same tricks.
Thanks to:
Does anyone treat you different
because you're a girl who
skates?
Yes, sometimes. They call me a
betty or ask ignorant questions,
then I start skating and bust some
tricks, and then they change their
attitude.
Crescent, who was my first
sponsor; Janett's Skate Shop; my
brother, Dan; Tony; my mom, who
said girls don't skateboard; punk
rock; and everyone I've skated
with who showed me tricks.
