The Vert Cut Was A Timed Jam Format; Three
Runs, Best Run Counted
8th-Kenny Zangiff Belov: lien disasters, long 5-0s to
fakie, frontside nosegrind reverts.
7th-Ken Lehman: backside Smith grinds, pogo rocks,
used the whole ramp, stylish sweepers.
6th-Tommy Leggot had the largest bag of tricks: Miller
flips and, for the boys in Texas, he planted the foot just
for you, super consistent.
5th-Dave Maxwell kept his clothes on for once: plat-
form frontside boneless reverts.
4th-Anthony Furlong: varial gay twists, kickflip Indys,
360 varials to fakie.
3rd-Pierre Luc-Gagnon: kickflip Indys, 360 varials,
consistent.
2nd-Greg Hiler: big frontside nosegrind on top,
frontside ollies, used the extension, did everything big
and fast.
1st-Phil Hajal: once again very consistent, Indy 540's,
big airs and Cab heelflip Indys.
The Post-Game Proceedings
The first band was a local favorite called Clairmel. It
was the beginning of the night and it was obvious every-
one was already having a good time. After Clairmel
was done, the lights were turned on and some skate-
boarding went down, but only for about twenty minutes.
There were a few falls, and after one person knocked
himself unconscious for a few minutes we had to shut
the skating end of it down. I don't think anybody cared
because they were already killing themselves with beer.
Ash County Sluggers was the next band to come on,
and by this time, three of the kegs had already been
absorbed. Then followed the Pink Lincolns, and it was
for sure they brought a few wild ones with them. I mean,
serious groupies-homemade Pink Lincoln shirts all worn
by professional wrestling-size apes. It just so happens,
while Bam and Mike Maldonado were making fun of a
few of these cro-mags, one of them came over and
smashed their heads together like a pair of coconuts. A
beer shower ensued and the live entertainment drew
to an end. The kegs went dry, and everyone was ready
to retire from a long weekend of skating and celebrat-
ing. Best trick of the week goes out to Brian Childers:
frontside ollie off the quarter-pipe into a Smith grind on
the vert wall. Thanks go out to everyone for all the coop-
eration. The weekend couldn't have gone any better. Be
prepared to come back next year.

The Vert Contest
There were twenty skaters in this contest, the cut was to eight, and it
consisted of two forty-five second runs, best run counted to qualify.
The People Who Didn't Make The Vert Cut
Kevin Coss: Cab backside blunts and huge frontside inverts.
Mike Cruz: powerful lines, big airs, skating the ramp from edge to edge.
Rob Erickson: frontside ollie 5-0s.
Ray Fennessey planted the hand everywhere, Andrechts up the extension.
Paul Urich and Johnny Randolph smashed into each other at full speed. If
you were wondering, this is the reason why Johnny now has the silhouette
of a turkey.
