I was most displeased with your
"What is Punk?" issue. The sad
truth is that punk is being poor,
outcast by society, sad, out of
luck and relying only on your
friends for any happiness. Here in
NYC, the only punks I see beg for
money on the street, are often
homeless, under the age of 17,
abused and alcoholics. Punk isn't
skating vert with no elbow pads,
that's just stupid. Besides, if you
have enough money to buy an
issue of Thrasher, I don't think you
would be a punk. Also, what does
Thrasher, a profitable and success-
ful magazine that makes tons of
money, know about being punk?

To me, being straight-edge just
means that I'm drug-free, but
some say that being straight-
edge includes being a vegan.
Before all the kids catch on to the
vegan part of the straight-edge
movement, I think something
should be clarified-veganism is
not healthy. When you are grow-
ing, your body needs milk to make
your bones strong. Skaters need
especially strong bones. Also,
meat provides protein that the
body needs. For teenagers, veg-
anism is definitely not the way to
go. Next, I would like to talk about
vegetarians. According to a recent
study, meat-eaters live longer
than vegetarians. Also, milk cows
are locked up
in a pen with
a machine
attached
to their
nipples
to extract milk. So, unless
you're vegan, you're caus-
ing animals to be tortured.
My brother Jimmy, a senior at
Cornell University, found a
book that shot down vegan
theories. One of the chap-
ters stated how vegans
killed more animals than
meat-eaters. This can be
explained by saying the
more vegans there are,
the more rain forests
(the homes of many animals) that
have to be cut down for farmland.
Then when the crops grow on this
farmland, they spray pesticides on
the crops and millions of bugs are
killed. By the way, bugs are ani-
mals too. Also, frogs eat the bugs
that contain pesticides, which are
eaten by snakes, which are eaten
by birds, which are eaten by wild-
cats. The pesticide messes up the
food chain due to overpopulation
of vegans. I have one last com-
ment-veganism causes chronic
halitosis (bad breath). Hopefully
after reading this you realize you
shouldn't eat ten pounds of meat
a day nor that you should never
eat meat. Never be an extremist,
try and stay somewhere in the
middle. Lastly, vegans that are pro-
choice confuse me. They say how
bad it is to kill animals, but it's
okay to kill human babies, which
are actually animals.

have been reading Thrasher for a
while, and I've seen a lot of stupid
ass lists that always end up at the
Mail Drop. I have a list of my own:
1. Vert skaters have big nuts.
2. Skaters get much cat.
3. Posers are the only ones who
whine about posers.
4. Doctor Perky is a god.

Andy first turned pro
about five years ago.
He started out riding for
one company, but after
a while they told him he
needed to "change his
image" to fit the times.
So he started riding for
a different company.
But things there weren't
too much different. For
a while Andy didn't
ride for anyone so he
wouldn't have an
"image" to fit into.
That's when we stepped
in. It's been a little over
a year since he's been
on our team, and to tell
you the truth, he doesn't
really fit in here either.
And that's just the way
we like him. We may
not have been his first
sponsor, but he'll never
need another one.
