Which tricks feel the best to you?
Airs on vert. Not frontside rock n'
rolls, though. That's what I sat on my
leg with. I was doing a frontside rock
n' roll and flipped out and sat on my
leg. It's already healing, though.
What do you really appreciate?
My family, painting, friends, good
times, music.
Being healthy?
Yeah, being healthy I'd appreciate,
because I'm not right now. And cars, I
appreciate cars.
Did your dad got you into cars?
Yeah.
Didn't you get a speeding ticket in
the Chaos video?
Yeah, but Fitzpatrick talked the cop
out of it. He somehow managed to
convince him that it was all his fault
that I was speeding, so the cop let
me off. You know how he is, though.
Those guys are incredible with words.
What really pisses you off?
Police officers, when I do something
wrong in a painting, being hurt, and
Neal's whiny attitude. Things that piss
me off are people that are too serious.
Who do you respect?
All my friends, Mandy, Anakin and
my family, a lot of painters like Dali.
There's too many people to mention.
What's been your favorite country
you visited so far?
My favorite was Spain, probably,
and Paris. Paris was pretty cool.
For the culture or the skating?
Probably the culture. I didn't really
skate much when I was in Paris. Like
culture-wise, Paris, and then skating-
wise, it has to be Tokyo, actually. I like
everywhere, though
Why Tokyo?
Street skating there is so incredible.
You can skate there? Aren't there a
lot of cars in the way?
Well, I've seen mostly people riding
bikes there.
I always just hear of congestion.
Yeah, it's just like being in down-
town SF during business hours, but
there's just so many old back alleys.
and this and that. It's like Bladerunner.
You never see photos of any of that.
Yeah, the kids don't really skate that
much, that's why. They mostly hang
out at Embarcadero-type areas.
Has artwork always been a part of
your life?
Ever since I can remember. My mom
totally got me into it.
Chris Senn finds lines (top sequence) that
none will ever think of. At his home park,
The Grind (left), step back and check the fake
allie switch 5-0 to nose. Proud dad happily
piggybacks Anakin (for left) on the way to
the park. Centerspread: He skates it all and
rips it all. This frontside is over your head.
How do you come up with the ideas
and inspiration to a design?
Mostly just drawings of nature.
drawing human forms and stuff like
that usually brings up ideas for com-
positions. If you draw like a plant in
its setting, it'll kind of arrange every-
thing for you. If you draw like a fig-
ure, it'll arrange everything for you,
usually. Just build off of nature, that's
usually the best way to do it for me.
Why has Grass Valley bred so many
good skaters and snowboarders?
Because there's nothing else to do
here, and it's such a small town that
everyone's such good, close friends
that it initiates positive vibes. Every-
one builds off each other's energy.
Who would you like to thank?
My family, friends and Todd.
What is harder, a backside lipslide or a
frontside slider? Gotta be the slider. The
artist and his piece (right), entitled, "Ply on
Steel." The rails at SF State have been ses
sioned since 1987, but not like this. Check
this ollie to backside 50-50 (below) over
a fat gap. Even the Skater Of The Year
(bottom right) gets heat from the man.
