LONG BEFORE SMALL WHEELS GOT BIG AGAIN, people were skating just as hard.
Dinosaurs are extinct but they still ruled in their time. Clockwise from left: As one of
the founding fathers of modern street skating, Matt Hensley ollie grabs a staler over
the long-gone Harlem Banks in New York City in the fall of 1990. A deserted and side-
ways grain silo in the grasslands of Florida is the site of Alan Losi's frontside attack into
the upper quadrant way back in the spring of 1989. At the helm of his first Varillex
model, John Lucero gasps for air above the square part of Upland's infamous Combi-
Pool in the summer of 1985. Though the graphics were controversial, they paved the
way for the skater-influenced scrawlings on decks to come.
