MAIL DROP
BIKER BOY
Snap all caps, saps and used grizzly bear traps to Mail Drop,
c/o Thrasher Magazine, PO Box 884570, San Francisco, CA 94188-4570.
I am the father of a thirteen-year-old, very impressionable skater who
reads Thrasher every month. Incidentally, I pay for it and pick it up for him.
Almost always I glance through it and find it difficult to understand why
you don't inform us of how many skaters end up in emergency rooms-
some of the stunts they perform without helmets and protective gear!
There is a need for your magazine to stand behind a campaign to promote
the use of helmets, etc. Certainly our youth would be safer, in less risk of
unwanted injuries and have more time to enjoy their activities.

PIPE DREAM
It's sad to see someone as old and experienced as Steve Alba writing an
article about what's cool and what's not. As a veteran in the skateboarding
scene, it would be nice to see him use his intelligence to write a real arti-
cle on the sport, instead of going off on if piercings and dyed hair are cool
and what-not. Why does he waste time caring about what other people
want to do with their lives? Most everyone goes through their little stages
and fads while others stand behind what they believe in. As long as they're
doing what they want and they leave you the hell alone, who the hell
cares? Don't you think people may have looked at him wearing leopard
skin pads and sunglasses and thought he was corny? It's hard sometimes,
I'll admit, but you shouldn't be so quick to judge people.
COLD FLAP
I am getting really pissed off at all the skaters who say snowboarding
isn't a real sport. I'm also sick of those who say snowboarders are afraid of
pavement, like there's no danger in snowboarding at all. Gee, I think I'll
make a list of dangers. Umm, let's see, there's rocks, ice, avalanches, frost-
bite, runaway skis, skiers, other snowboarders, falling out of chairlifts... No
big deal, right? Besides, a lot of skaters also snowboard too like Sluggo,
Omar Hassan and Colin McKay, Snowboarders might be afraid of pave-
ment, but skaters are afraid of snow. So then, what are you doing over the
winter? Nothing?

WAKE UP
I'm writing to you because of this dream I had about skating. Willy
Santos and Bill Pepper were in an arcade at the mall. I had to loan them
a dollar each so they could play some games.
They then asked if I wanted to go skate at the
skatepark. When we got there, we played
S-K-A-T-E and I won. Then we hung out at
my friend Joey's where Bill tried to drive Joey's
dad's truck but couldn't because he got a hurt foot
from skating. Finally when they had to go, I asked if
I could go on tour with them, and they said okay,
but then my mom said no, so I just got their auto-
graphs. Then I said, "See ya later, Willy and
B. They said, "One of these days we're
going to have to do it all again." Then
they got in a van and took off. And
then I woke up.
