Street tricks were soon adapted to vert. People
took notice. Consistency once again mattered. True
street skating became more refined. Maneuvers
invented more than three months before were final-
ly considered acceptable. In fact, moves from all
generations were welcomed.
Skating has once again become impressive to
the non-skating public, which brings us here...
In one run/routine/session, it is now possible to
do a layback grind, a boneless one, an invert, an
ollie, a 540, a kickflip and a switch inward heelflip
without the fear of humiliation or rejection from
your peers or the public. We have grown to accept
all types of skating while still progressing. People
are getting stoked and you can bet that Thrasher
will continue to cover it all.

Even on a borrowed board, Tony
(opposite) is still agile enough to
contort a mute over the box.
The man (top left) and his friend
Sean Mortimer. Never in the his-
tory of our sport has one person
completely dominated it more
than Hawk, and when it's demo
time, just step back and watch
the master do his thing. Indy
nosebone (above) in another
tradeshow situation. Having
done 540's for over ten years,
the equation (right) reads some-
thing like this: 540' x 365 x
10-1,971,000 (not counting
720's), that's hotter than the
surface of the sun. A classic
Hawk technique (left) is the ollie
to grab. How do you want it?
Like this? Like that? Fresh? No,
I'd like mine stale as flat beer.
