CULTURE VACUUM
Guerrero, Thiebaud and Klindt presented their art show GET SOME
"Canvas America" in San Diego. A couple days later, an Ed
Templeton curated exhibition of skate-directed creativity
received rave reviews at the Huntington Beach Museum of
Arts. The Figure Five Gallery SF debut of Lance Dawes and
Gabe Morford equally excited the arbiters of taste and cul-
ture, so we all know the crossover effect is fait accompli.

LATER DAZE
The Action Sport Retailer Pigfest featured a memori-
al ramp jam dedicated to the memory of Frank Hawk.
The late Mr Hawk's son Tony demonstrated some lines
that served notice that in the circus presentation ori-
ented world of theatrical vert riding he still is the stan
dard. The hot rumor of the trade show concerned the
alleged sale of Stüssy, Inc, the supposedly impending
sale of Rusty, Inc, and, the biggest non-secret in the
World, the rumored defection of Marty Jiminez
and Channel One from the Acme stables.
Another burning jibe was hurled at a certain
manu by a wood vendor who claimed he was
owed $38,000 for boards built. The futuristic
resurrection aspect to the show was under-
scored by the presentation of the "new Hobie
Sports" board as well as goods "created" by
deceased surf legends Duke Kahanamokou
and Dewey Weber. Mike McGill offered his re-
pop old Powell signature model logo which he
claimed to have "traded" some of his "Animal
Chin royalty money for." Birdhouse magnate
Hawk continued to offer a version of his old
Bones Big Board also. Eddie Reategui was

tionality. On-point types included G-Dog.
David Hackett, Shogo Kubo, Wes Hump-
ston, Jim Muir, Tony Alva and old school
skateboard builders Dick Brewer and Phil
Edwards. Former Makaha skate team
managers Jim Ganzer, Mike Doyle and
Skip Engblom were also present as were
ex-Hobie types Dale Smith, Bob Skold-
berg and Johnny Freis. Modern individu-
alists dealt with their mysto trend towards
historification. Danny Way announced
he's training for Formula One racing and
may soon be piloting a go-kart in profes
sional racing. Rocco lost his whole
empire slot car racing with Keith
Cochrane. Jim Fitzpatrick and
Ice-T swapped photo poses with
the Duffs' cafe fuzzy bunnies. Mr
Fitz was reportedly offered 80
grand by a consortium of promi-
nent skate industrialists to do an
unaligned contest. Swank pre-
miered the Foundation super vid
and spoke of getting 14,000 hits on
the internet. Tumbleweed Ancell
played slack key guitar with Hawai
ian legend Mike Young while Kana
ka ruler Titus Kinimaka looked on.

showed up at Glenn Kennedy's

the cops reportedly told Kennedy,
"Hey, tell Salba not to grind the

gulfed by flames. He's back skating

Titus Dettman, promoter of the
longest running International Skate
Championships, was overheard
wondering just "how many world
championships you could have a
year?" Meanwhile, ESPN is consid-
ering a series of eleven world titles
reportedly extremely in sync with

LOST WEEKEND

tured high watermark occurred
when Tracker Larry Balma refused
to disrobe for MTV's cameras while
a scantily clad video ho begged
him to do so. Perhaps she was
overly stimulated by his street rod?
Think crew chief Keith Cochrane
was denied access to the contest
area, as was Rocco. Mr Steve retali
ated by apparently obtaining some
very bogus ID and thus entering in
an obviously underhanded manner.
Cochrane, on the other hand,
appeared genuinely distraught as
he "couldn't coach his riders."
Team rider Sergie Ventura was so
bothered by Keith's lack of coach-
ing that he handily won the high-
est air event, while Digo hummed
along obviously in jet-lagged slum-
ber. Both Rocco and Cochrane
spoke of a future organizational
boycott. IASC leader Jim Fitzpat
rick appeared perplexed at the
event's conclusion. Mr Fitz was
speculating regarding the disposi
tion of the purported 105 thousand
dollar budget.
REAL DEAL
Amid the fear of cuts and axes,
Coco Santiago left the Deluxe
