THRASHER PARK
CITY OF SAN LEANDRO
Twist of Fate
The city of San Leandro, California, recently opened up a
skatepark on the exact same plot of land of a seventies skate-
board mecca called the Thrasher Pool. Some of the original
Bay Area rippers learned thier transitional skills there. People
like Paco Prieto, Jeff Sand, Ulloa, Bryce Kanights, Crazy John,
Dave Carpenter, Bruce Rodela, Tim Marting, Joe Fong, Bob
Faulkner, the Fisher Brothers, and even little Tommy Guer
rero. The wide open rounded triangle pool had a spit gutter
all the way around the lip and a very laid back atmosphere
in which it wasn't uncommon to see twenty skaters there on
any given Saturday. Long before Thrasher Magazine existed
they were ripping Thrasher Pool.
Call it karma or call it luck, but it seems as though the skate
gods were smiling on this spot. Word at Thrasher Park is that
because of the serious sessioning going down there they are
already looking into making the whole place metal. It may not
be cement, but after all, what other skate mag has a park
named after them?

Clockwise from top: Ground in stone, the name Thrasher will live forever.
A fuzzy Chris Pastras 5-0s a metal ledge. Captain Kanights had to climb
a tall fence to take this overview shot. Man Schlicoff enjoys a nosegrinder.
