UNDER THE BRIDGE
Far below the din of motor traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge, the
sounds of transition pumping rumble along at a feverish pace.
Thanks to artist Maura Sheenhan, the skaters of New York City have
there own vert ramp, well at least for the summer. Giving her work
the title, "Culture Bridge: A Social Sculpture," Sheehan explains
that it was "inspired by the outlaw anarchistic nature of the street
skating." After she got the site, she asked herself, "How could I
resist and not make a piece where cognition and coordination are
not just made visible, but actually demonstrated?" Needless to say
it was rideable and skaters from all over hit the tall, thin vert ramp
on the Brooklyn side of the famous bridge this summer. With the
crossover between art and skateboarding happening daily, let's
hope more artists get involved with city and make skateable sculp-
tures/structures all across the world.
