punker than thou,
old school crusties.
pre-pubescent rebels
just looking for a cause,
loser ass posers and people
who don't give an anarchy
T-shirt about what anybody
else is doing. There is one
record that should immedi-
ately grace whatever pitiful
collection of music you now
have. With 43 tracks of unre-
lenting social upheaval from
LA's seminal Angry Samoans,
The Unboxed Set contains all
of the tunes from Inside My
Brain, Yesterday Started To-
morrow, Back From Samoa
and STP Not LSD. No, this is
not a paid public infomercial,
this is merely a statement of
historical fact. There is also an
extremely fine video of said
Samoans and their earlier
incarnation Vom called True
Documentary that features
highlights of the carnage-
strewn run-in with large and
in-charge wrestling manager
Kenji Shibuya... Meanwhile,
Samoan guitarist Metal Mike
is an accountant, just like he
always was, and he still writes
mellow melodic garage pop
tunes, just like he always did.
and he still loves Green Day
and The Offspring, and his
new CD, Next Stop Nowhere,
is nothing at all like the upset
punkitude of the Samoans.
But then Mike admits he had
always did have a softer more
sympathetic sensitive side.
"That's the kind of style I was
writing all along," he says.
"But in 79, the obvious cool
style to play was the early
West Coast hardcore style, so
we were totally into that,
I can only speak for myself,
but my very favorite would've
been kiddie Redd Cross, with
Hetson and Ron Reeves, and
then later they changed, and
they played a bunch of gigs

with Dez of
Black Flag on guitar
and Chet of Wasted
Youth on guitar, and Jeff
McDonald would sing, and I
thought they were just amaz-
ing. And apart from that, we
liked everybody from Black
Flag to Fear, to Circle Jerks
on down. My personal favor-
ites were The Modernettes
from Vancouver, who were
just amazing. They were actu-
ally the only close prototype
to what Green Day did over
a decade later". Another
original Angry young man,
Gregg Turner, also has some
solo stuff that sounds noth-
ing like the Samoans either.
His group The Mistaken put

tunes about dogs, sheep.
tombstones and math... This
month's pick to kick ass com-
pilation of unknown ragers is
Live Fast, Never Die, featur-
ing Pinhead, The Shrooms,

and Armed & Hammered,
just to name a few... In a
world gone mad, those who
remain sane will be deemed
out of their minds. Wesley
Willis is a certified schizo who
has recorded over 400 songs
and at least 20 albums. His
Greatest Hits is a crazy left
field collection of tunes that
will bring a smile to some and
drive others over the edge.
With songs like "Rock N' Roll
McDonald's, "I'm Sorry That
I Got Fat" and "I Wupped
Batman's Ass," this album is
not recommended for those
who cannot take a joke...
When Slash's Snake Pit came
to Irving Plaza in New York
with Tad in tow, who should
appear backstage but the
original rock n' roll animal,
Iggy Pop? Tad and the Igster
were seen bullshitting in a
corner and sharing a few inti-
mate moments together...
No silence please, Motör-
head is back with a new slab
of skull crushery called Sacri-
fice that is harder, heavier and
faster than ever before. And
when it comes to Lemmy.
Phil and Mikkey Dee, that's
saying a lot... For better or
for worse, witness the rebirth
of The Misfits. It would now
appear that original vocalist
Glen Danzig is ass-out as the
band recently placed a classi-
fied ad for a new lead singer.
Here's hoping it's El Vira.
