slavery when they looked at that flag. It could
have been about who's got the biggest dick.
The bottom line, and I'm not taking away from
the fact that slavery sucked, we got tons of
black people who come to see us all the time,
and I consider them welcome in our shows and
have never had a problem with it. As a matter of
fact, I love it, I wish there was more of them out
there, I wish everybody came to see our shows,
Chinese people, everything. I don't give a
damn. So therefore, it's not an issue. But any-
way, I just think it's over-sensitive that they're
saying that flag solely represented slavery. It's
tunnel vision, something to hang their hat on. I
think it's propaganda started by the white gov-
ernor, Zel Miller, and his staff, just to stir shit up
and draw attention away from the real issues
that needed to be dealt with down there. It's
ridiculous, it's wasting taxpayers' time and
money. And what about the strides that whites
and blacks have taken together since that time?
At least it should make you look at that damn
flag and say, "Motherfucker, there's been a lot
of progress since that time!" -Jon Stain

to get rid of, so I traded him some useless shit
for the crummier of the two. From that day on, I
lived a skateboarder's dream. I learned how to
skate with the help of gymnastics and break-
dancing. I traveled to California, competed in
all the vert contests I could find, got sponsored
and went pro for Real in '91, and I got to travel
across the States and tour through Europe. At
all the contests, I got to see all the pro skaters
that inspired me to want to skate vert, like
Hawk, Hosoi, Mountain and Miller. And that, by
far, is the best part of contests.
By 1992, due to the lack of vert ramps and
media attention, ramp skating took a backseat
to street. I continued to ride our vert ramp
almost everyday with Moses and Colin.
Everyone around our area was into skiing and
snowboarding since we have three ski hills
fifteen minutes from downtown Vancouver. So, a
good friend, Kevin Williams, lent me a board
and boots and took me up the mountain for my
first time. I was hooked. Snowboarding is a
piece of cake after being a skater. My first year
snowboarding, another friend, PD, gave me one
of his snowboards to use for the season (thanks
PD). Learning the tricks in snowboarding was
the easy part because switch isn't really switch
at all. And there's no such thing as an ollie, it's
more like a bunny hop. Last year, I travelled all
over the world on my snowboard, through
Japan, New Zealand, Europe, USA and Canada.
Now, it's 1995, I ride for Division 23 with a
model out next season. For skateboarding, I
ride for World Industries, Independent and
Duffs. I've had a lot of support over the years.
Without these people, I wouldn't be writing this:
Mom and Dad, my brother David, Geraldine,
PD, Gersham McLean, Colin McKay, Moses,
Ben, Teen, Jeppe, Sam Devlin, Jody Morris,
Dean Walsh, Kevin Young, Mouse, Mark
Morrisett, Peter Line, Rodney Mullen, Steve
Rocco, Tommy G, Greg Delio, Rick Howard,
Peter Sullivan, Sean Kearns, Balmer Brothers,
Jay, Gram and Grandpa White. I'd especially like.
