advances, held out
open arms for some
of the world's most
advanced skaters.

I showed up early Friday afternoon to a
warm greeting from an old friend. Looking
around, I didn't see much. The course
wasn't even c
close to being completed. I
came with a few friends, and we s
we sat
around, talked and shared stories about
old times. The reunion had started. Slowly
but surely, the place was becoming
packed. Pros from Nor Cal. So Cal and
abroad were
I were showing up for the Great
Skate Festival in San Jose.
The course consisted of exactly I slip
of
pery floor, 1 car. 2 bank-to-curbs. I bank.
a 1 foot tall spine and a bump. If there was
ever a time that skaters proved their great-
ness, it was this weekend. because these
were obstacles you'd otherwise have in the
corner of your garage awaiting extinction.
As each pro skated and gave it all he
had, the toll was coming down, and the
Mark Gonzales (above) gets horizontal over Bill Pepper.
The car (right) got a beatdown from Chris Senn's 180"
fakie 5-0s. In life, if you serve it, you eat it. Ethan Fowler
