RELIGION CONTENTION
December's hate-filled letter
"Scared Stupid" by lan Welling crit-
icized the Christian faith of Shawn
Mandoli and Ray Barbee. Welling
made the overreaching generaliza-
tion that "religion is based only on
fear." Actually, religion is a set of
beliefs concerning the cause,
nature and purpose of the universe.
Fear may be a rational response to
what a person believes ultimate
reality is, but fear, itself, is not the
basis for a set of beliefs, Christian
or otherwise. Welling asserts that
"God is a concept unworthy of a
free mind." Today, God as a
concept is increasingly
being embraced by scien-
tists in differing fields. In
astronomy, physics and biol-
ogy, we see overwhelming
evidence for intelligent
design of intricacy and
complexity, there is no evi-
dence for random process-
es. Many of the minds
rejecting this evidence today do
so because their minds are not free.

Me and my friend were skating.

about her son and said that she had
a bunch of old skate equipment of
his. She said we were welcome to
have it if we came over, so she gave
us her phone number and left. My
friend and I were a little skeptical
because she was pretty lit and
could have just been talking shit,
but soon after she left, we called
her for directions. She said on the
phone for us to come over, and she
would "give it to us." We assumed

we got there, she told us a story
about her ex-boyfriend coming.
