Santa Rosa
Kicks Down
The city of Santa Rosa, California,
opened its first public skatepark in
June of 1994. Since skateboarding
in other parts of town is forbidden,
the skatepark is now the only legal
place to ride in Santa Rosa. Of the
six San Francisco Bay Area parks,
this new facility is one of the best.
Designed by Ken Wormhout, it
features bowls, hips and snakeruns
of varying depths. Also on-site is
the mandatory railslide and fun box.
The park was swarmed by skaters
and rollerbladers from the moment
the concrete cured. The only major
setback is that clueless elected off
cials think they only have to give up
a few crumbs and all is forgiven. As
the saying goes, "When fun is out-
lawed, only outlaws will have fun."
