What's the fastest you've ever gone in a car?
When me and you were driving back from
Vancouver, through the mountains, we were
going like, what, eighty? You were driving ahead
of me and we were just jamming for hours. That's
the first time I've really driven a lot. Vancouver
was totally fun hanging out with everybody, see
ing all my friends
How'd you do in the contest there?
Like mid-twenties out of eighty people.
You enjoy all types of skating, right Shawn?
Pools, bowls, ramps?
Pools are hard to skate, though. Street skating,
that's what I do most, because you just can step
out of your house and go.
But you can still attack a vert ramp?
Yeah, I'll skate a vert ramp. It's hard, though. I
don't skate it that much. I'll skate whatever's
around, like if you see a pool, you might as well
just go skate, who cares if you could just do kick-
turns? it's still something to skate. It gets boring
NCY 911
for me, skating pools. I can't skate it too long
because I can't hit the lip all crazy like Christian,
he's bad. So I mostly go street skating in San
Francisco or San Jose, or like when you go trav
elling, it's mostly street skating. But actually, it's
mostly props, Props get boring, like demos, day
after day, you skate props, and it gets boring.
you need to skate a block or something, just real
skating, like cement.
Have you ever broken a window?
I broke a window with my skateboard when I
rode for Think. I threw my board at a window.
because I got stressed. I was filming, and I got
mad, so I threw it in a window, and then Salman
picked me up and had me go get the board, and
then we jammed. Stupid. I wish I never did that.
I used to stress a lot, but I don't stress as much
anymore. I just skate for fun.
Do you have any closing comments?
I just want to tell people that God is real, the
good news of Jesus Christ, that he died for the
SEP.D
world, and if you receive
him, you'll go to heaven,
and he'll bless you here on
earth. He's blessed me, I've
got peace in my heart from
him daily. And just what's up
to all my friends, Nick and
Blake, everybody at Deluxe
and Real, and my mom, my
dad, my brother, Zachary,
and Zari, and my sister,
Zondra, and my brother,
Paul, and my cousin, Bob,
slash it up, dude, Nick and
Andreas, everybody at PDC.
Ellen, Charity, Nicole, and
whoever else I forgot.
Like anyplace else, spots in San Jose come and go. The
Bricks (top) went, but lucky for us, they mysteriously
were reborn. It used to be grind and slide, now The
Bricks are perfect for the modern street pilot to take
flight. After he allied up a curb, Shawn took two casual
pushes and floated gracefully above the red adobe
plane. Good noseslide photos (above) have two
common denominators: Levelness of deck and good
ledge height. This frontside passes with flying colors.
Embarcadero is a place where you never know what
to expect. Sometimes the cops (left) watch, and other
times they bust everything on wheels. Unfortunately
for Shawn, he picked a bad day to visit Justin Herman
Plaza. Once clear of the brick wonderland, the didleys
told him to never come back or they would make his
parents come down and pick him up at the station.
