SCRIBBLE
BILLY
Billy was thirteen. He loved skate-
boarding more than anything else in the
world and was very good at it. One day,
however, his legs were injured very
badly in a moped accident and he had
to have his feet amputated. Little Billy
was horrified at the thought of never
being able to ride his skateboard. He
asked his doctor if there was any possi-
ble way he could ever skate again. Billy's
doctor told him of a very skilled micro-
surgeon who might be able to help him,
however great sacrifices would have to
be made. Billy said he would do what-
ever it took to be able to skate again.
The doctor soon set up a meeting for
Billy and the surgeon.
Billy and his parents talked to the
surgeon and were told that he would
require an operation to remove his
wrists and hands, and attach them
where his ankles and feet once were.
Billy knew that his feet were much more
important to him than his hands and
agreed to undergo the operation.
The surgery was long and expensive,
but it was successful. The surgeon soon
became famous for his breakthrough
techniques. Billy underwent lengthy
physical therapy to learn to walk with
hands where his foot once were. His
feet/hands eventually became very
strong and Billy started skating again.
Billy discovered he had far greater
board control than he ever had. He
could not wear shoes, so he usually
wore nothing on his feet/hands when
walking or skating, and they soon
became tough as leather. Billy could
ollie, flipping the board any way he
pleased, catch it and land on it. He
pioneered such maneuvers as double
impossibles and heelflips to kickflip. On
vert, Billy could do tricks no one else
could duplicate, such as no-handed
method airs and no-handed fingerflips.
Billy became a professional skate-
boarder at age seventeen. He was her-
alded as the most technical skater the
world had ever seen. Surgeons around
the country were approached by young
skateboarders wanting their hands
transplanted to their feet.
Although his legend will live forever,
Billy did not. By the time he was eigh-
teen, Billy was making a very comfort.
able living as a pro skater and he decid-
ed to move into his own apartment. A
week later, he was found dead in his
apartment, starved to death. Billy's
friends had carelessly put all the food
on the top shelf. -Brock Patterson
