PORTLAND PUNKFEST
HANSO SHANSO
6-8298
Steel-toed boots and middle-finger salutes
came together in the pit at the Punkfest. The Exploited once
said "Punk's Not Dead," and the din at the gig proved anarchy
is still a way of life. Tim Brauch, Steve Caballero, Royce Nelson,
Curtis Hsaing, Tony Alva, Christian Fletcher and Jason Monroe
drove up to spend time and check the lines nearby at Burnside.
Spiral clockwise from above: The freak faction had to wait till
August 7th and 8th, but despite their state, not a mohican was
late, as the line of potential pogoers backed down around the
corner. Security was slow letting everyone go, so
so the opening
bands suffered a lack of attendance. Tony Alva went for a roll
during a lull and mutated hip flights at Burnside. Channel Three,
everyone will agree, pointed the way to a better future. Ill
Repute was beyond dispute. MDC murdered the moment and
the slammos showed it. Dr Know was out of control. Wade
Speyer drifted higher at Widdell's camp ramp. DOA made the
day and Joey Shithead drilled the point home. The Addicts were
distinguished and gave the evening a little English. DI ignored
glam and instigated a slam. Butt Trumpet removed doubts and
let it all hang-out. Rikk Agnew went from The Adolescents
and launched a group called Poop that churned a thick soup. A
bunch of
h of full pipe riders cranked the craziness higher and they
were renown as Shutdown. Punks filled with hate bum-rushed
the gate. JFA was in town and put the hammer down. A dingy
haze dissolved the days into a blaze of punk rock memories.
