nce in a
blue moon, a session
brews to fruition that
is truly superior to any other known or remembered
shindigs in the recent past. Originally billed as an under-
ground backyard pro contest, the multi-faceted mini-ramp
known as Happyland played host to a huge skate bash com-
plete with live music, no rules, and plenty of party favors.
Skating began in the late afternoon with locals Matt
Moffet, Reese Simpson, Peter Hewitt, Weasel, Bruno Herzog
and Chuck Wampler burning up the masonite with fast
lines that covered every inch of the ramp. Danny Way
came by to turn up the heat with knee-high frontside nose-
blunts, frontside kickflips over the hip and a backside kick-
flip on the over-vertical extension. Matt Moffet tore into his
runs with alley oop Indy nosebones over the hip, long stand-
up grinds to tail off the extension, fakie ollies to nose over
the hip and frontside sliders around the pool coping-laden
corner. Like a runaway freight train, Peter Hewitt hauled
ass through all corners and slid long rocks to fakie across
the lip of the over-vertical corner. Reese Simpson boosted
assorted ollies and nollies across the hip and the Weasel
man kept things alive with his reckless abandon. As the ses
sion continued to grow, near misses and collisions began
to occur with mounting frequency. Over one hundred party-
goers lined the decks and nested atop the roof of the Happy-
house, screaming in approval of the rolling anarchy before
them. Their cheers filled the neighborhood as the night
raged on. One casualty however was Dave Reul, who severe-
ly sprained his ankle in a clash with the flatbottom. After
a quick visit to a nearby hospital, he
returned to join in on the
revelry.
