Cypress Hill are
droppin' ill with Black Sunday, a
fat salad of blunts, beats and bul-
lets guaranteed to serenade the
synapses. With songs like "Insane
In The Brain," "Hits From The
Bong" and "Cock The Hammer," B-
Real, Sen Dog and DJ Muggs deliver
the dope to all who will partake. Brian
Brannon tracked down B-Real prior to
their European tour and hit him up on
questions of music and philosophy.
What's the fattest blunt that you've ever
smoked?
Aw, wow, damn, there's a lot of those, but
I've got to say, the fattest one was when
we was on tour with the Beastie Boys.
It was the last show in San Francisco.
Me and my road manager RC rolled it
up. It came up to about nine inches
in length and it took about eighteen
papers. I know it was like a half
ounce. It was a big joint, man. It was
the killer green.
What would you say are the ben-
efits of smokin' the chronic?
Well, I can't speak for every-
body 'cause it affects everyone a
little different, but if you want to
say the benefits I get from it, it just
helps me relax or whatever. I don't
really use it to make me do anything. It just
relaxes me. I mean, if I'm high and I get an
idea off the high, then I'll roll with it, definitely. It
comes out pretty funky, but it all depends how you
feel. But I do get some pretty bugged out ideas
when I'm high though, I'll say that much.
What's your preferred smoking mechanism?
A water bong. It's a much cleaner and safer way
to get high if you're gonna do that.
What do you think about little kids that might.
listen to your music and want to get high?
Well, see the whole thing is that we never say once
to pick up a joint and get high. We say, if you do it,
that's on you. It's a cool thing that the kids can dig it
'cause it just goes to show they got good taste in
music, but kids are gonna do what they're gonna do.
I got high for the first time in fifth grade and it wasn't
like music made me do it. I did it because it was my
decision and there wasn't nobody there to tell me
whether it was right or wrong 'cause they
were doing it along with me
kids are gonna do what they're
Tell me about that new
"Insane In Theew song
he Brain."
That wasn't really a con-
cept song that was meant to
mean anything. It was kind of
a lash out to a couple of rap-
pers. And the hook came as a
thing where people go insane
at the shows,
they're losin"
their minds. It's
really not a concept
song. We're just lettin' a cou-
ple of rappers know that we're not
gonna take their little shit, you know, so "Insane
In The Brain" was also meanin' that we
were lockin' u
n' up on 'em, and we got a lit-
tle crazed about it.
Is that anybody in particular?
Well, I don't want to name no names
'cause then I'll give 'em props, but let
me put it to you like this, we don't like
the guys with the feathered hairdos,
we don't like punks that try to mock
us in their video, they know who they
are. I don't really want to get the pub-
lic involved in our little dis thing.
You know a lot of skaters
are into you guys.
Yeah, that's a cool thing
'cause I'm down with a lot of
skateboarders like my man
Christian Hosoi, he's one of
my good friends around the
way and I've been trippin' on t
him skating for a while, so it's a
cool thing 'cause even they feel
that it's a part of them too.
Do you have any closing com-
ments or anything?
Legalize it.
