Hard Facts In A Cold World
LARDLESS
My friend and I have noticed that
just about all skaters are skinny, yet
they eat so much. We have pon-
dered over this for the longest time,
then we decided to ask you. Could
you answer our question?
Kringer and Orko
Redmond, WA
Skaters need to eat a lot of food
to keep the engine running at top
speed. This in turn burns a lot of
fuel. Also, if they were fat, it would
hurt more on big slams.
FINDERS KEEPERS
I've basically lost my ollie power.
I can do tricks like toe flips and late
shove-its, but regular ollies eat me
raw! I used to be able to ollie over
three boards on their sides. Should
I go back to the basics?

Try finding the solution to the
problem by relaxing and not think
ing that you can't. Know that you
can, and you will.
TROUBLED TEEN
I just started skating a year ago
and my mom doesn't want me to
skate because of the skater lifestyle,
she said it's not lady-like. She also
said that guys won't like a girl with
bruises and scabs.

Most skaters don't judge people
don't like the way I dress. They just
about blew their top when I told
them I wanted to color my hair. This
one girl gave me the nickname of
"Roach," which I guess is all right.
What do you think?

Skaters come from all walks of life.
and I'm sure that you are one by
the way you write.
DOWNSTAIRS DUDE
I live in a suburban area and
there aren't many places to skate.
My house is cool to skate in the
basement, but my dad won't let me
skate there anymore because he
thinks I'll ruin too many things."

way while they are at work.
DOWN TIME
I'm an average skater with an
attitude to everybody except other
skaters. My parents think there's
something wrong with me because
I've gotten thirty-five detentions this
year, suspended once, failed three
subjects and they got a letter in the
mail that said my educational aver-
age was 248 out of 248 kids in my
grade. Now my parents think it's all
because of skating and they want to
take me to a psychiatrist.

BORN BAD
How do you know that you're a
skater? I just started skateboarding
a few months ago and I don't know
that many tricks. The reason I want
to know is because I live in a small
town in Oklahoma called Little Axe
and there are only two skaters in
my school. My parents and family
ple of things you can learn in
school that can help you out later.
It all depends on what kind of job
you want to work at for the rest
of your life once you get out of
school. Get an idea of what you
want to do and tell your parents
you're willing to work hard to
achieve your goals, but that skat-
ing is in your soul and they should
never try and take that away.
