Beatdown
Caballerials, 540's and disaster reverts. Say
what you will about the butt-jack style, he can
definitely skate.
From out of nowhere, the Flying Lopez
brothers showed up to re-establish the Christian
syndrome and Richard Lopez earned eighth.
The need for air was all there, but Sanford didn't
make the cut. The Lopez bros took to the air i
a way that has long been left behind. Whi
Richard only rode a small part of the ramp, el
did eight foot 540's, big backside airs, alley-
oop tailgrabs and illusions where he hit the back
truck on the coping coming in from over six feet
out. Lopez may not have been the most tricky
or up-to-date, but to the ordinary spectator,
he was the shit
Speed was no problem for Remy Stratton,
but he seemed to be suffering from the on the
road blues. He didn't know what tricks he want-
ed to keep and which ones to leave behind.
On this trip he packed some feeble fakies, back
side airs, Smith lipslide Smiths, one foot ollie to
rails, disasters, backside 5-0 tailslides, and a few
mighty stinky seatbelts for ninth place.
Matt Dove, a rookie pro who was last year's
amateur champ, made his presence known
and took tenth by showing his own style of
vert wizardry including body varial tailslide
reverts, frontside oilie nosegrind shove-its,
heelfip Indy to tails and bent as fuck tailgrab
to fakies. He contarts, he slams, and once he
drops in, and it's all over. (entinued on page 30)
Previous pages: Danny Way battled stomach
poisoning all week be still managed to tear
everywhere he went. This noseslide at the
Brooklyn Bridge earned him cold hard cash.
This page, clockwise from left: Keith Huffmagle
was down for flights over the wall, as this 360
kickflip will attest. The atmosphere was tense, to
say the least, and some say this guy almost got
beat to death by the unruly crowd. Busting out
pro for the week's festivities, Bostonian Jahmal
Williams rode hard even though he was injured.
On the road, Tim Brauch just wants to skate, as
this varial heelflip on the bricks shows. Eric
Koston, not dorking the 180 kickflip. Pierced
tongue and loving it. The crowd stops traffic on
the golden side so the lemmings can land.
