Switchstance on flatground is a lot easier than on a vert ramp. But if you ask Colin McKay
(above) about it, he will tell you it is all in your mind and in your shorts. Ollie to tail at the
home of the Red Dragons, Vancouver, Canada. Photos by Jody Morris. Street gaps are con-
stantly under the gun from both approaches, but John Montessi (right) makes quick work
of a short stock and some sidewalk by way of a backside 180. Photo by Chris Ortiz.
Ambidexterity
all thing
is the goal, a balance
between left, right, for
ward, backwards, up, and
especially, down. In base
ball, hitters have switched
stances for years, but,
imagine the managers
nightmares if they had to
face a switchpitcher. It
would drive them insane.
Or how about Buttons
Kealoha who purfed glant
tubes one way, totally dis
appeared into the green
rooms and came out the
barrel the other way?
It all boils down to being
truly in tune with your
body. Anything that can
be done regularly will
eventually be tried switch-
stance. And in skating,
unlike all the other sports,
every new day that dawns
brings more intense
action. No wonder so
many people are giving up,
they just can't handle the
heat. Let them get on,
that's cool by us.
