New School Un-Coverage
Simon Woodstock debriefs Salman Agah
I was in a very cool bar in San Diego not too long
ago. The people were mostly old skaters and the
drinks were extra-potent and sometimes even free.
But the thing I remember most about the place was a
big sticker on the side of the cash register that said,
"No Sniveling!!" From the moment I saw that sticker,
the message was clear and my life was less compli-
cated. No more wasted tissues or unnecessary tears
to be shed. Okay, so now on to my point. I live right
across the street from the world's best skater, Salman
Agah. I know he is the best because he tells me all
the time. Whenever we go skating and I bail more
than ten times in a row, Salman will ask me what the
heck the trick is that I must try so much. When I tell
him I am trying a 540 doubleflip, he just laughs and
does a waist-high switchstance ollie in my face. I
usually have to sit on the nearest curb and think for
awhile after that.
I always keep my chin up though, because I've
been skating for seventeen years now and I've seen
the seasons change and the leaves on many skater's
trees turn brown and fall off. Pretty soon, the new
generation won't have time to skate in their regular
stance at all, but will be forced by their peers to learn
all tricks skating switchstance. Regular stance is not a
streetplant or pressureflip. It will not die, it will only
become more solid and classic.

trick you want whether it be the most

DONNER PARTY
Word came in the form
of a fax that skaters in
Tahoe were planning a
shindig at The Horizon
Casino in which a mid-
ramp was to be the focus
of some serious brute
force, with the proceeds
going towards building
a skatepark. Between raf-
fling the door prizes and
some hella boring gay
ass rollerblade movie,
the crowd was treated to
some incredible skating.
Combatants on the small
slippery woodchip included
Speyer, Hawk, Senn, Yates,
Tershay. Palmer, Cardiel,
CoCo, Karma, Brauch, Cab,
Driggs and Alan Petersen.
Highlights of the evening were
Cards' melon 540' attempts,
Petersen's huge airs to fakie and
some of the finest dumps in
recent memory. It seemed like a
flashback to 1986 with all the
autographs and cheers. Props

And then there was another innocuous
Action Sports Retailer trade show. Once
again, this show's theme was segregation
and mind-control. While skaters, street
types and non-traditional people were rou-

buyers begged show hierarchy for some
protection against the ugly rolling street
and skate "trash." Fortunately the head.
