P
eople have come to expect the worst
from the Geto Boys. But Bushwick Bill,
the band's infamous 4'2" frontman, says
the bad boys of rap are just telling it like
it is with raw regurgitations about life in
the ghetto. "I'd rather be hated for what I
am than loved for what I'm not," he
says. "Our music is lyrical Hollywood.
CNN gives you the world in thirty sec-
onds, but with a Geto Boys record, you
get the world in two hours. It's not for
people that lead a sheltered life, it's for
people that either shit or get off the pot."
Like a fist into the side of your head,
Till Death Do Us Part, the Geto Boys'
latest album, explodes with a new line-
up. Says Bushwick, "The original Geto
Boys line-up includes Willy D, who is
currently solo and is not a part of the
line-up anymore. He has been replaced
by Big Mike of the Convicts. Willy D
helped us go platinum and now he is
sticking with his own music. And if you
look up the old Convict album, we did a
song with Big Mike before that was
I called 'Dial-a-Rock' So Big Mike has
always been part of the band."
Despite the platinum status of Can't
Be Stopped and the gold single "Mind
Playing Tricks On Me," the Geto Boys
never received their just desserts. Says
Bushwick, "Cash, ha, ha, ha. You have
to get paid before you can have any
money in your pocket, and I haven't got-
ten paid. I've gotten no money from Def
American and to sue them you've got to
have money, right? I guess everybody's
catchin' the same amnesia. Watch your
back 'cuz it can happen at home."
It's hard for Bushwick to put into
words the rage that caused him to con-
vince his girlfriend to shoot him in the
head. "It wasn't that simple," he says. "It
didn't happen that quick. I wish it would
have been that quick. It really took three
hours to get her to shoot me. I
d
begged her to shoot me. I didn't
give a fuck. I was drinking and
got pissed off because I wasn't getting
paid for selling records and begged her
to shoot me, I can't vouch for every-
body, but I live the shit I sing about. I
can't vouch for everybody else's
strengths or weaknesses for that matter.
When I get upset, I trip and being that
I'm West Indian, being that
Jamaican. I can't drink hard alcohol no
matter what kind of Indian you are, you
can't handle it."
