THE SHIFT
Skateboards have changed so fast that even the way we ride
has changed. Disasters began years ago when noses were very
small. Now with the kicknose, we have entered into a whole new
breed of skateboard trickery. Known as the "shift," it is really a
foot movement that allows greater range and dexterity. Here is
how it works: Say you go up a ramp as if to do a fakie ollie to
hang. Your feet are in the regular ollie position when you lift off
the coping, but in mid-air your front foot comes all the way up to
the nose. When you land, you are ready for the impact and the
seesaw effect that must happen upon re-entry. Now that you
have successfully re-entered, the shift back to the ollie position
is mandatory, and you are ready for the next wall in your path.
It is simple, and when you get it wired you do it anywhere.
Remember, practice makes perfect.
