Gutter
Talk
My feet hurt so
much I could
hardly walk.
The soles felt
Nike they had
been worked
on with a ham-
mer and anvil.
All those years
of running off
and bailing had
finally caught
up with me.
After an
exhausting
sweat-filled
afternoon, fol
lowed by a
melting shower,
I walked in a
daze around
my apartment
looking for a
place to expire.
The couch in
the living room
was in my
sights and hit it
mid-stride.
Lying in a
semi-comatose
state, my bare
feet found
themselves in
contact with a
griptapod dock
lying on the
floor. Somehow
the griptape falt
good against
my beat feet. I
sat there for a
while, rubbing
my calloused
dogs back and
forth over the
sandpapered
slab. It felt so
good that I got
up and started
dancing across
it for a good fil-
teen minutes.
In fact, after I
took the bumps
and Swiss
cheese off my
soles, I was so
invigorated that
I put my shoes
back on and
went skating
So skip the foot
doctor, just get
out an old
deck, lake off
your shoes
and dig in.
