Golden Gate Park was a gift from
John McLaren to the people of San Francisco..
Sculpted on a mass of sand dunes, it stretches
from the Haight district through the fog belt to
the mighty Pacific. It is the largest public city
park in the country. Every Sunday, for as long as
anyone can remember, Golden Gate Park has
been closed to vehicular traffic so the urban
dwellers get a chance to enjoy the green grass,
trails and carless streets. It has hosted every-
