PRODUCT PATROL
Life goes by too fast. I remember when I started
skating, knowing the world was there to ride. I
have grown older, but that feeling is still
alive-the adventure of a late night jaunt or the
excitement of a push through the projects. The
other day I was charging down a busy street
when I saw a kid skating the sidewalk in the op-
posite direction. I turned around, caught up to
him at the light
and said, "Hey!
Do you want
some stickers
for your deck?"
He looked me
up and down, as
if I was a freak,
and said, "No
thanks." The
light changed
and he took off.
I thought how
cool it would be
not to know
anything about
the mags, teams
and bullshit I am
exposed to. He

NEVER SLICK

dudes from Maine, that's
Who. Of their decks, I
like the Never Slick best.
While it is a bit dated
shape-wise, I found it
sturdy. The graphics

never had it and never
will. I agree with these
guys. Plastic is just a
passing fad. Paint and
veneer slides well
enough on ramps, and,
as for making it last
longer, so what? The
concave is a little too
deep and it is too wide
for my tastes

MIKE FRAZIER
Hippers are the worst of skate injuries: they limit
mobility and make you look like an old person
when you walk. Hip padding in the past was
confined to bulky, sight shorts. Hip Clips are a
new answer. They clip onto the inside of your
shorts or pants and you can buy single pads
for the way you slam. They are light and small,
so they fit in your equipment bag, are pretty cheap
and last a long time. They claim to be absorbent.
so you won't be left with a huge sweat stain in your
crack, but who can believe that? Hip Clips, PO Box

Powell and Peralta must
have worked overtime to
get this deck on the
market. In the past, they
have lost pro riders by
waiting too long to give
them models. Ather
watching Frazier skate in
their new video, they
better try to keep him
around. Mike's top looks
a lot like those the street
wizards ride-no bulk, a
small, thin, rounded
shape. One of their
best-a true crossover.
Time will tell if he sticks
with the shape.

JIM THIEBAUD
What is the deal with
Real? Instead of
following, they are going
against the grain by
redesigning the time-
tested 7-ply. The result
is the new Jim Thiebaud
all-wood top. This deck
features a new 5/2
lamination, which means
seven plys constructed
with five regular plys and
two thinner cross-plys
The end result is a
lighter, more flexible
deck. They wear out
quicker, but Real feels
the added responsive
ness is worth it.

SALMAN AGAH
Salman Agah is on the
market tip with his new
slippery board. He is the
newest pro in the Real
stable and his slick deck
is bad-ass. Real is going
with a 4/3 laminating
scheme on their slick
bottoms. The plastic
adds strength, so the
third ply can be lighter
The concave is almost
non-existent, with no
kinks or bends. The
lower the deck is to the
ground, the easier it is to
ollie. Buy it, your mom
will get a kick out of it.
