            PRODUCT PATROL
As far as I am concerned,
the skateboard industry is
as strong as ever. I went to
a pro contest last weekend
and was surprised to see
how many supportive, cre-
ative and intelligent
people were there. These
are the people who are
writing the history of our
everchanging sport. The
contest was drawn out but
it felt good to see old
friends and watch some
ripping skating. If you ever
get a chance to witness a
pro contest, I highly
recommend it. Well, hope-
fully K.T. will get set up at
the industry trade show
this weekend and we will
get our hands on some of
the latest and greatest.
Until then, I remain your
humble servant.

JANE
60mm
PLAIN JANES
Specs: 60mm, 99A
When big wheels were in three years ago, I checked out a set
al Cockroach wheels from Australia Today, small wheels are in and
so are the Plain Janes. The wheels were fast but I found them a little on
the chalky side. The thing I liked best was the shope, which resembled
the old Blackhart wheel of yesteryear. I gave them to Jonah and a
week later there were no flat spots-that says something I'd live
to see more from this wander from doen under

VELOCITY
The Disaster was a great shoe, but Airwalk's new Velocity goes one better.
This is one company that knows skaters' feet. The Velocity features a durable,
comfortable upper and the famous Airwalk sole. One great attribute is the tough
double-stitched, shell-like front cone, which is good for kneeslides. On most
shoes, the uppers wear faster than the sole, but not on these puppies. The price
is steep but the shoe is deep. Arvak, P0. Box 227-9000, Carisbad, CA 92008
